Whitestone Insight surveyed 2,002 UK adults online between 24th-25th April 2024 on attitudes towards the family in modern Britain.
Data were weighted to be representative of all UK adults. Whitestone Insight is a member of the British Polling Council and abides by its rules.
Survey Highlights
This survey asked for perspectives on several recent news items including Scotland’s Hate Crime and Public Order Act, the Cass Review, guidance around gender identity in schools, and the perennial hot topic of ‘woke’.
Headline findings include:
Four in five UK adults (79%) believe gender reassignment surgery should never be offered to under-18s
43% consider Scotland’s recent legislation a ‘complete waste of police resources’
46% support JK Rowling’s recent comments surrounding Scotland’s Hate Crime Act, vs 30% who believe she has been too vocal or is transphobic
One in five (19%) consider themselves ‘woke’, while one in four see it as a virtue
The survey also polled attitudes towards the family in Britain today:
Three in four (75%) believe family breakdown drives poor mental health
Six in ten (61%) are concerned at current levels of family breakdown
Four in five agree it is the responsibility of parents to teach children core values, over and above schools or the local community
Three in four agree parents who want to look after children at home should be financially supported
78% of adults are concerned about children’s smartphone usage
Nine in ten agree social media creates enormous anxiety amongst young people
